Freelance (B2B), full-time | Luxemburg | Hybrid or remote
About the role
The Translation Centre is strengthening its IT Infrastructure Section and is looking for an experienced Linux Administrator. The mission is twofold:
- Take over the management, optimization, and security of the existing Linux infrastructure (on-premises and current cloud), including the Docker stack.
- Contribute to a cloud infrastructure migration project.
Responsibilities
Linux server management (core)
- Provisioning & management — automate Ubuntu server deployments using configuration-management tools (templates, cloud-init, or Ansible).
- Maintenance & patch management — design and run a phased, automated update cycle across Dev, Acceptance, and Production using snapshot-based repository mechanisms to guarantee environment parity and zero production downtime.
- Observability & monitoring — track system health, server performance, and logs to detect and remediate anomalies before they affect users.
- Business continuity & resilience — oversee, test, and optimize backup policies, data-integrity verification, and Disaster Recovery Plans (DRP).
Docker hosting management (core)
- Administer, monitor, scale, and secure existing Docker / Docker Swarm clusters.
- Tune configurations, manage resource allocation, and prepare these workloads for transition to the cloud.
Secondary activities
- CI/CD & GitLab administration — administer the GitLab platform; harden and optimize the runner fleet (dedicated/shared runners, strict isolation, secure configuration); support engineering teams in streamlining pipelines.
- Container & security compliance — manage and integrate private registry solutions (e.g. Harbor), including image signing and automated vulnerability scanning.
- Enterprise secrets management — decouple credentials from code and pipelines, integrating with enterprise password managers or vault solutions to continuously rotate keys and secure access.
- Cloud migration — build infrastructure templates (Terraform or Ansible) for the selected sovereign cloud provider; help define the landing zone (networking, VPCs, routing, IAM, DMZ security); plan and execute migration of services and data with minimal production impact.
Required skills (must-have)
- Linux server administration — proven, hands-on experience administering Linux server environments (ideally Ubuntu): system provisioning, standard maintenance, and patch management.
- Scripting — practical experience with shell and Python scripting.
- Technical documentation — ability to clearly synthesize, document, and explain complex cloud-architecture choices to diverse internal stakeholders.
- English — professional working proficiency (written and spoken) for everyday technical collaboration, reporting, and documentation.
Nice-to-have
- Docker / containerization — hands-on management, configuration, and troubleshooting of container environments (workload deployment, lifecycle management, networking, volumes).
- GitLab administration — administering GitLab instances: runner management, configuration, and fundamental CI/CD pipeline troubleshooting.
